Overview
The graduate program in Plant Pathology (PPG Plant Pathology) is inserted into the Department of Plant Pathology and Nematology and is one of the founders of the graduate program at ESALQ, having completed 50 years of existence in 2014. The PPG Plant Pathology achieved level of excellence in the CAPES assessment and is compared to best international program in the field of plant pathology.
The faculty is highly trained in teaching and research in plant pathology and all professors have conducted part of their training abroad.
Scope
The PPG Plant Pathology provides an environment of academic excellence for the formation of professionals in plant pathology, who are trained and empowered to face the sanitary challenges of agriculture, whether in the public or private sectors. To fulfill this mission, the PPG Plant Pathology has four basic axes of actions:
- Convey fundamental and up-to-date knowledge in plant pathology and make contacts with various sectors of the job market, providing the student experience that allows them to evaluate the social significance of their activity.
- Ensure excellence, multidisciplinarity and internationalization of our faculty members.
- Stimulate international student experience.
- Provide the highest quality of infrastructure for education and research.
Objective
The PPG Plant Pathology has as main objective the contribution to the improvement of phytosanitary aspects in agriculture. To achieve this goal, the PPG Plant Pathology works on the formation of teachers, researchers and professionals highly specialized in plant pathology, in addition to developing pioneering research with direct application in the understanding and control of plant disease.

Accreditation
The graduate program in Plant Pathology is accredited by CAPES, a governmental organization which is responsible for assessing and accrediting higher education institutions in Brazil, with a grading scale ranging 1-7, where 7 is the maximum score. In the most recent triennial assessment (2010-2012), the Plant Pathology program scored 7.
Digital library of theses and dissertations
Theses and dissertations defended at the University of São Paulo starting in 2001 have been made available for online research and download. The project is associated with the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD), sponsored by UNESCO and provides the option of browsing the Plant Pathology program catalog by thesis, dissertation, author or college.
